this is the greatest thing i have ever seen
Lol thanks!
visually its pretty much perfect
first off, wow, those backgrounds were fucking beautiful, especially the christmas lights that came to life; it's not often you get flash animations that have so much detail put into the lighting aspect
i've got to nitpick a few things though. i don't think the flash should have turned out to be the kid's fantasy/dream. something that's annoyed me recently about a lot of cartoons is that the cartoonish and fantastic aspects of them turn out to be a hallucination, a dream, or a drug trip. it's not only an easy 'cop out' ending, but it sort of takes away from the fact that it's a cartoon in the first place. personally i think the story would have been stronger if you based it around the city with the boy encountering the neon lights, rather than taking it to the outer space setting. a few things seemed shoe-horned in as well, like the alien for example - i think he was just there so the cartoon could have a tangible antagonist.
aside from that, everything else was great (especially the shots/framing), the sequences fit well with the music etc etc etc, i just wish more of the cartoon was like the first minute or so instead of a space adventure
pretty damn good
a couple of minutes in i was like "the fuck? they spent all this time on a double dragon clone?" but i stuck with it and ended up loving it, all the little references and quirks are great, and there's a sweet level of detail that you've been able to put in that was never available on the nes. i like how (for MOST of the levels) you actually built upon their gameplay somewhat rather than just emulating it.
i'm pretty sick of all these retro throwback games as they've dominated the indie games scene over the past few years, but this is a much better homage/overall game than most of them. it didn't overcomplicate things and all the way through i was reminded of how raw and unforgiving games used to be, which i guess is the point of an 8-bit love letter like this.
obviously with so many gameplay changes the game was going to be a real mixed bag from the start - i enjoyed the sheer challenge of the megaman and balloon fight segments, but the zelda part lacked that vital puzzle factor and was essentially a linear trek through a boring dungeon with a funny shape. the wrestling and urban champs segments were both pretty dull too. anyone who grew up with the nes will probably enjoy this regardless though
btw, i love how the main character is some obscure boss that nobody remembers instead of some generic fill-in character like the one in IWBTG. nice touch - if you ever respond to this it'd be cool to know why you picked abobo of all people lmao
really cool
i love metroid style games and i really like this, the world seemed to just keep expanding as I went on. storyline was cute too
my main gripe though is when you're in the big rooms and the camera zooms out - its hard to do some of the trickier platforming when you can't see where you're jumping
pretty good
this was good stuff but i think the rules came in a little too fast, with no real time to sink in. i would have honestly waited till a later level to bring in the 'dont walk left' rule because god damn that was frustrating, and some of the cheap platforming tricks like an abundance of spikes felt like a quick n' easy difficulty bumper rather than good level design. i like games that kick your ass though so i pressed on
either way it was a solid game with great music. i'm gettting a little sick of the 8-bit revival 'genre' but i could definitely tolerate the graphics too
wow
its like nine inch nails if they werent completely fucking gay
Its like phil collins if he didn't molest kids and only use acoustic instruments.
